A big myth in the fitness world is that the more ab exercises yo do, the faster you will get six pack abs. This couldn’t be further from the truth! Heavy compound lifting will contribute to a stronger core and ab workouts will definitely help build ab muscles, but the only way to reveal your abs is by shredding body fat.
Ab work is optional in this program is totally optional since your training will incorporate workouts that will develop a strong core. But if you want to refine your ab muscles then I recommend the following: choose a moderate-hard ab workout and perform 100 reps right after your workout or right after light cardio on a “rest” day.
Some of my favorite ab exercises are:
- Upper abs: Decline weighted crunches and cable crunches
- Lower abs: Hanging leg raises
- Oblique’s: Russian twists, wind-shield wipers, and side-planks
